WILD, short for "wildlife", was developed by TV Archives and the Information Technology Systems Department of the ABC to provide an index to the collection of Natural History material (film and sound).

Exciting and internationally acclaimed pictorial sequences of Australian flora and fauna, along with those of the contrasting environments of Papua New Guinea and Antartica, have been recorded over twenty years by the Natural History Unit of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

This invaluable television program material, plus thousands of feet of selected trims now forms the most extensive natural history stock-shot collection in the southern hemisphere.

Access to the collection is via the WILD database which was especially developed to facilitate A&LS research at a sophisticated level on behalf of scientific and educational bodies and professional commercial producers of documentary and feaeture films. Interrogation is through a range of fields including common or scientific species name, age, sex, behavious, habitat, vegetation and features of special interest and attraction.
